As promised at the June 28th neighbourhood meeting, a 2nd neighbourhood meeting regarding the “safe injection site” proposed for 115 Water St. N., will be held as follows:
Date/Time: Tuesday, July 10th at 7:30 pm
Location: Downtown Community Centre, 35 Weber St W, Kitchener
Multi-Purpose Room on the 2nd floor.
There will an opportunity for some further discussion, but the objective is to identify, explore and organize pertinent questions that you have.
PLEASE NOTE:
Our Neighbourhood Association has been advised that an informal meeting is also being planned by the Region of Waterloo Public Health and Emergency Services. This will be held fairly soon after our July 10th meeting. A notice will be posted/shared as soon as Regional details are firmed up.
They anticipate giving a short presentation and expect to have representatives from Waterloo Region Police Services and Sanguen to answer questions and concerns.
Also, the Region now has a new process available for residents to suggest additional sites; the Link: Engage Region of Waterloo . On the Engage platform, select “Locations for Supervised Consumption Services”. It notes that: Suggestions for candidate locations provided through other pathways (social media, voice mails, etc.) should be resubmitted through this platform.
Background:
As previously noted the proposed Safe Injection Site is part of the Region’s Opioid Response plan for supervised consumption services. A feasibility study – Waterloo Region Supervised Consumption Services Phase 2a Results – was presented and endorsed (with a few amendments) at the June 19th Regional Council meeting.
