Heritage Permit Application for demolition of 50-52 Weber and 56 Weber at Heritage Kitchener August 4th, 2020

Heritage Kitchener resumes meetings (virtually) at 4pm, August 4th. Included in the agenda is the consideration of applications for the demolition of two properties in our Heritage District, 50-52 Weber St and 56 Weber St W. Written comments can be submitted via Sarah Goldrup at Sarah.Goldrup@Kitchener.ca Written comments will be circulated prior to the meeting and will form part of the public record. Request for participation electronically in the meeting by contacting Sarah Goldrup. Delegates must register by 4:00p.m. on the business day prior to the meeting [Friday, July 31].

Following is the public review process of a Heritage Permit Application requiring Council approval. The public is permitted to submit comments, observe or speak before each decision-making body:

CompletedHeritage Impact Assessment review at Heritage Kitchener
4-6pm
Tues., Aug. 4th
Heritage Permit Application review at Heritage Kitchener (via videoconferencing). Heritage Kitchener makes a recommendation to Council.
7pm-
Mon., Aug. 10th
Planning and Strategic Initiatives Committee (PSIC) makes a decision on the HPA
7pm-
Mon., Aug. 24th
Council considers PSIC’s report and votes on the HPA

50-52 Weber Street West, 56 Weber Street West, and 107 Young Street

The Planning Division is in receipt of a draft Heritage Impact Assessment (HIA) dated June 2018 regarding the proposed demolition and redevelopment of 50-52 Weber Street West, 56 Weber Street West, and 107 Young Street, located within the Civic Centre Neighbourhood Heritage Conservation District. The property owner / applicant intends to demolish the buildings located on the subject properties in order to construct a 6 storey multiple residential building.

The owner and consultants from MHBC will be in attendance at the August 14 meeting of Heritage Kitchener (4-6 pm, City Hall Council Chambers) to present the draft HIA and answer questions. Heritage Planning staff will be seeking the committee’s input and comments which will be taken into consideration as part of staff’s review of the draft HIA and the processing of anticipated heritage permit and site plan applications.
